A particle is moving along a projectile path at an initial height of 80 feet with an initial speed of 112 feet per second. This

can be represented by the function H(t) = −16t2 + 112t + 80. What is the maximum height of the particle? 196 feet 276 feet 392 feet 472 feet

Answer:

276 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

The best way to do this is to complete the square, which puts the quadratic in vertex form. The vertex of a negative parabola, which is what this is, is the highest point of the function...the max value.  The k coordinate of the vertex will tell us that highest value.  To complete the square, we will first set the quadratic equal to 0, then move the constant over to the other side:

-16t^2+112t=-80

The rule for completing the square is that the leading coefficient must be a positive 1.  Ours is a negative 16, so we have to factor out -16:

-16(t^2-7t)=-80

Now the next thing is to take half the linear term, square it, and then add it to both sides.  Our linear term is 7, half of that is 7/2.  Squaring 7/2 gives you 49/4.  So we add 49/9 into the parenthesis on the left.  However, we can't forget that there is a -16 out front there that refuses to be ignored.  We have to add then (-16)(49/4) onto the right:

-16(t^2-7t+\frac{49}{4})=-80-196

The purpose of this is to create a perfect square binomial that serves as the h value of the vertex (h, k).  Stating that perfect square on the left and doing the addition on the right:

-16(t-\frac{7}{2})^2=-276

Now we finalize by moving the constant back over and setting it back equal to y:y=-16(t-\frac{7}{2})^2+276

The vertex is (\frac{7}{2},276)

That translates to "at 3.5 seconds the particle is at its max height of 276 feet".

The sum of two positive numbers is 588. minimize the sum of the first and three times the second
Marianna [84]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  {587, 1}

Step-by-step explanation:

The sum will be minimized when the second number is as close to zero as is allowed. If the numbers must be positive integers, the sum is minimized when the numbers are {587, 1}.

If the numbers may be real numbers, then the values that minimize the sum are {588-, 0+}

_____

The "cost" of taking a unit from the sum 588 and assigning it to the second number is that the sum of first and 3 times the second goes up by 3. In order to minimize that sum, the second number must be minimized.

Help please any One who can solve this equation? ☺
malfutka [58]
If y varies directly with x, that means they change at proportion rates. We can define their relationship using a constant k.

y = kx

Plug in what we know to find k.

-3 = 5k

k = -3/5

So:

y = -1 * (-3/5)

y = 3/5

What's the answer ? To this question
Airida [17]
You could use the equation y=mx+b

Find the slope of the two coordinates. I would personally suggest using stack and subtract:

(0,2) 2-5 -3 3
(2,5) -------= ------= -----
0-2 -2 2

We have the slope but we need to find the y-intercept.

y=3
--x+b
2

Plug one of the coordinates in the constructed equation above:

2=3
-- (0)+b
2

2=0+b
-0=-0
------------
b=2

We found the slope and y-intercept. Now we have our complete equation. The equation is:

y=3
--x+2
2

Answer:

The answer is 15 21/40

Step-by-step explanation:

If you convert 8 1/8 to 8 5/40 then convert

7 2/5 to 7 16/40 then add the wholes 7 + 8 = 15

and then add the actual fractions 5/40 + 16/40 = 21/40

then add the whole and the fraction 15 + 21/40 youll end

up with 15 21/40 so that is the awnser PS I’m in 5th grade age 10
