D. A source that's cited in another source

Something that is direct means that you get one from place to another the fastest way and without anyone or anything interfering. Indirect means the opposite. It is not the fastest way between two points, and there may be interference or a middleman. An indirect source is one in which the information is not directly from the author of the source, but rather the source using a different source for the information.

D. A source that's cited in another source is an indirect source.

Explanation:

For any work of literature, or any form of writing that involves the quoting or citing of a previous work's words, the source of that cited work is mandatory. Sources play an important part in the writing of any literary work. Not only will it provide the authenticity of the work but will also ensure that the reproduced written work is a valid and true one. This getting of information from another work requires the sourcing of information or detail from a genuine and reliable source. They can also be referred to as primary source and secondary source and so on.

Further Explanation:

Direct/ primary source is when the work of any literary product is used as a source for the reproduction or even for any form of referencing. It gives/ takes it's sources directly from the original book. Direct sources provide a valid and first- hand information about the topic. But indirect/ secondary source is the use of a source that had been cited in another source. It's basically a copy of a copy, with the validity or authenticity of the works not trustworthy unlike from a direct source. Like for example,

using the original text of "Hamlet" is a direct source. Whereas, when the quotations of "Hamlet" used in a book are again re-cited in another book. This is an indirect sourcing, basically meaning getting one's source from someone else's already done work. The very word "indirect" signifies there is no direct connectivity between the source and the reproduced work. The words gotten through the secondary or indirect sourcing may not be as reliable as that of direct sourcing and may even include the opinions added by the writer of that secondary source.
