Write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form that goes through the points

Slope-intercept form:  y = mx + b

(m is the slope, b is the y-intercept or the y value when x = 0 --> (0, y) or the point where the line crosses through the y-axis)

To find the slope(m), use the slope formula:

m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}    And plug in the two points on the line

(-4, -4) = (x₁, y₁)

(4, -2) = (x₂, y₂)

m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

m=\frac{-2-(-4)}{4-(-4)} (two negative signs cancel each other out and become positive)

m=\frac{-2+4}{4+4}

m=\frac{2}{8}     Simplify the fraction

m=\frac{1}{4}      Now that you know the slope, substitute/plug it into the equation

y = mx + b

y=\frac{1}{4} x+b  To find b, plug in either of the points into the equation, it doesn't matter which, then isolate/get the variable "b" by itself. I will use (4, -2)

-2=\frac{1}{4}(4)+b

-2 = 1 + b    Subtract 1 on both sides to get "b" by itself

-3 = b

y=\frac{1}{4} x-3  Your answer is A

In the year 2000, the population of a city was 600,000 citizens. The population increases at a rate of 1.8% per year.
Alona [7]
Y=600000(1+1.8%)^(x-2000)
So the population in 2012
Y=600,000×(1+0.018)^(2,012−2,000)
Y=743,232

A baseball player has a batting average of 0.25. What is the probability that he has exactly 2 hits in his next 7 at bats
marissa [1.9K]

Answer:

The probability that he has exactly 2 hits in his next 7 at-bats is 0.3115.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that a baseball player has a batting average of 0.25 and we have to find the probability that he has exactly 2 hits in his next 7 at-bats.

Let X = <u><em>Number of hits made by a baseball player</em></u>

The above situation can be represented through binomial distribution;

P(X = r) = \binom{n}{r}\times p^{r} \times (1-p)^{n-r}; x = 0,1,2,......

where, n = number of trials (samples) taken = 7 at-bats

            r = number of success = exactly 2 hits

            p = probability of success which in our question is batting average

                   of a baseball player, i.e; p = 0.25

SO, X ~ Binom(n = 7, p = 0.25)

Now, the probability that he has exactly 2 hits in his next 7 at-bats is given by = P(X = 2)

          P(X = 2) =  \binom{7}{2}\times 0.25^{2} \times (1-0.25)^{7-2}

                        =  21 \times 0.25^{2} \times 0.75^{5}

                        =  <u>0.3115</u>

Find the equivalent expression using the same basis (34•84)^3
vichka [17]

Answer:

(2)^9•(3)^3•(7)^3•(17)^3

Step-by-step explanation:

(34•84)^3

=(34)^3•(84)^3

=(2•17)^3•(2•2•3•7)^3

=(2)^3•(17)^3•(2)^3•(2)^3•(3)^3•(7)^3

=(2)^(3+3+3)•(17)^3•(3)^3•(7)^3

=(2)^9•(3)^3•(7)^3•(17)^3
