The casualties of WWI is around 40 million. They had many new technologies( u-boats, poison gas, chemical warfare, submarines etc) caused many deaths. The soldiers stayed in dugout trenches, many of them got sick from the living conditions or were malnutrient because they didn’t have much food.

What geographic features outlined the area of the third westward surge?
Sonja [21]

The third westward surge was outlined by the Mississippi River and the Pacific Ocean.

Explanation:

When the British established their colonies in North America, they were all located on the East Coast. The people remained on the East Coast for quite some though and they were not migrating to the west. This started to gradually change, with the main reasons being that the safety issues started to get solved, and that the means of transportation improved.

The first and second westward surges didn't really went a lot to the west, but the people were relatively close to the East Coast, mostly settling between the Mississippi River and the Appalachian Mountains. The third westward surge though was on a much more larger scale and on a much larger territory, with people settling between the Mississippi River and the Pacific Ocean, or around two thirds of what is now the United States.

The people started to move in in this part because:

  • The conflicts with the Indian tribes were mostly solved
  • The government was granting large portions of land for very little money
  • The territory became American after the territory was conquered
  • Lot of opportunities opened up for the people

According to Metcalfe's law, if a second computer is joined to a first, the value of the network created is how many times
igor_vitrenko [27]

Answer:

Four times

Explanation:

Metcalfe's law was developed by George Gilder and is credited to Robert Metcalfe, inventor of Ethernet (1980). It refers to the increase in the number of contacts and to the importance.

In spite of the fact that even the Internet, as we understand it today, was not present when the legislation was introduced, it talked more about the importance of computers in general. For eg, it would be pointless to own a mere fax machine. One may connect with another person if there are 2 fax machines, and since there are thousands, the computer has some meaning.
