A negatively skewed distribution means that the distribution curve doesn't fall evenly on both sides of the median, but stretches out further to the low end. If the values above the median are only slightly above the median, but those below it could be far below it, the average (mean) will be below the median. If the mean (average) is 68, then the median must be above it, or 72.
