Richard Connell uses personification often in his short story "The Most Dangerous Game." Which line from this excerpt is an exam

ple of personification? "I'll give him a trail to follow," muttered Rainsford, and he struck off from the rude path he had been following into the trackless wilderness. He executed a series of intricate loops; he doubled on his trail again and again, recalling all the lore of the fox hunt, and all the dodges of the fox. Night found him leg-weary, with hands and face lashed by the branches, on a thickly wooded ridge. He knew it would be insane to blunder on through the dark, even if he had the strength. His need for rest was imperative and he thought, "I have played the fox, now I must play the cat of the fable." A big tree with a thick trunk and outspread branches was near by, and, taking care to leave not the slightest mark, he climbed up into the crotch, and, stretching out on one of the broad limbs, after a fashion, rested. Rest brought him new confidence and almost a feeling of security. Even so zealous a hunter as General Zaroff could not trace him there, he told himself; only the devil himself could follow that complicated trail through the jungle after dark. But perhaps the general was a devil-- An apprehensive night crawled slowly by like a wounded snake and sleep did not visit Rainsford, although the silence of a dead world was on the jungle. Toward morning when a dingy gray was varnishing the sky, the cry of some startled bird focused Rainsford's attention in that direction. Something was coming through the bush, coming slowly, carefully, coming by the same winding way Rainsford had come. He flattened himself down on the limb and, through a screen of leaves almost as thick as tapestry, he watched. . . . That which was approaching was a man. It was General Zaroff. He made his way along with his eyes fixed in utmost concentration on the ground before him. He paused, almost beneath the tree, dropped to his knees and studied the ground. Rainsford's impulse was to hurl himself down like a panther, but he saw that the general's right hand held something metallic--a small automatic pistol.

In this (extremely long) passage, I found the line "night found him leg weary" to be an example of personification. This technique makes non-animate objects do human actions. Night can't actually find someone, so it is personification. Another example of this might be "the stars danced in the sky" since they can't really dance.

Your chum has been a perpetual truants in class.write a letter to his or her guardian's reporting his or her behaviour and likel
VLD [36.1K]

To write a letter to someone's guardians:

 • First, address the guardians. If we do not know the name of them, write Dear sir or madam. If we do, we write dear Mr (surname) and Mrs (surname).
 • In the first paragraph, greet them and introduce the reason for our letter. In this case, it is to inform about the behavior of our friend.
 • In the body of the letter, explain in detail the letter's topic. In other words, explain how the person is not assisting to classes and the likely repercussions that this can have. For example, we can inform them about the possibility of failing in tests or the subject or having to attend summer school. Also, we can talk about how this can impact in the future, as regards universities.
 • In the last paragraph, there should be a sentence explaining your concern. Besides, ask the guardians for help.
 • Say goodbye in a formal way, such as "yours faithfully or kindest regards." Lastly, sing the letter.

Before writing the letter, brainstorm some ideas, like immediate and long-term consequences for truants in class.

After you have ideas, plan every section of the letter. You can have some draft sentences and a list of connectors that you would use.

Lastly, join the different parts and complete them with some more information or accurate words.

Read this passage, which Paine wrote to
uranmaximum [27]

Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not only to TAX) but “to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER,” and if being bound in that manner, is not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth.

and the next one's answer is:

- The words tyranny and slavery suggest that Britain abuses its power and mistreats the colonists.

- The negative connotations of tyranny and slavery illustrate disgust with Britain's behavior toward the colonists.
