1. The death of Alexander I brought about the appointment to the throne of the new Tsar Nicolas I. This discontent grew and grew and brought about the Decembrist Revolt. This happened on December 26, 1825, and took place in the Peter's Square in St. Petersburg.

2. Under the Russification of Alexander II, he decreed that only "Great Russian" should loyal and swear their allegiance to Russia. This lead to pogroms against Jew and persecution of other minorities. Being a "Great Russian" meant that yo will be Russian first before any other identity.

3. The general strikes in the most of Russia forced Nicholas the second of Russia to share his power to a parliament. This lead to the creation of the Duma and a Russian Constitution. It was enacted on May 6, 1906. This was an attempt of the monarchy to prevent Russia to falling into Anarchy.

Due to his reputation as an honest man as well as a great negotiator, Monroe was appointed by Thomas Jefferson to help Livingston in the negotiations with France that would lead the acquisition of Louisiana to the United States.
