During The Reign of Terror of The French Revolution he was one of the 12 members of the Committee of Public Safety. That committee ran the government. All members were equal. He was more equal. He also decided which people would lose their heads. Finally the assembly lost patience with that committee and cut off his head. Another group took over the government.
