Lysozyme is an enzyme that breaks down bacterial cell walls and is found in your tears, mucus, and saliva. A mutation occurs in

the gene for lysozyme that results in a lysine (a positively charged amino acid) being substituted for an arginine (also a positively charged amino acid). Do you think that the mutant lysozyme will function similarly to the normal lysozyme?A.) yes, because protein function stays the same no matter what mutations occur.
B.) no, because all changes in protein primary sequence result in functional differences
C.) no, because changing lysine to arginine will cause the protein to denature.
D.) yes, because both lysine and arginine are positievly charged to the teriary structure and therefore function should be similar.

Answer:

D) yes, because both lysine and arginine are positively charged to the tertiary structure and therefore function should be similar.

Explanation:

The lysine, histidine and the arginine are positively charged amino acids as their pkA is higher and shows high affinity to bind the protons as a result of which they take positive charge.

The lysine amino acid is involved in the formation of the lysosomes and if a mutation in the gene which forms the lysosomes take place and lysine is substituted by the arginine then the mutant lysosomes will be as functional as the normal lysosomes.

Thus, Option-D is correct.

In eukaryotic cells, DNA is packaged with proteins into structures called chromosomes. What advantage do chromosomes provide the
Vadim26 [7]

Answer:

Option C, They allow random distribution of genetic material when a cell divides.

Explanation:

The chromatin are responsible for packaging of DNA molecule into smaller space with in a chromosome. It not only package it but also protect it from. Packaging allows for easier division of cells during mitosis and meiosis and hence prevent any kind of damage to the DNA.

Chromosomes make recombination and random segregation of genetic material to form new cells.  Each new cell gets equal number of chromosomes

Hence, option C is correction

I need help on this-
Sergio [31]

Answer:

Sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the accumulation or deposition of mineral or organic particles at the Earth's surface, followed by cementation. Sedimentation is the collective name for processes that cause these particles to settle in place.

Igneous rock (derived from the Latin word ignis meaning fire), or magmatic rock, is one of the three main rock types, the others being sedimentary and metamorphic. Igneous rock is formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava.

Metamorphic rocks were once igneous or sedimentary rocks, but have been changed (metamorphosed) as a result of intense heat and/or pressure within the Earth's crust. They are crystalline and often have a “squashed” (foliated or banded) texture.

How is DNA used as a template to make proteins?
Julli [10]
A genes dna is transferred to a molecule called an rna in the cell nucleus. Then the Rna assembles the protein and continues until the ribosomes "stop".
