Please identify the mistake made in regard to economic decision-making in the following scenario. Alexander is heavily invested

in the stock of Nortel, a telecommunications giant. However, Nortel has been in steady decline, and even though all signs point to the fact that Nortel will likely go bankrupt, Alexander holds onto his stocks, unwilling to sell unless he makes back at least the money he invested. Alexander's mistake is an example of Jim is washing his laundry and, as he checks his pockets, finds an unexpected windfall of $50. Elated because it is $50 more than he had before.

Questions is incomplete. It's last line is: *Jim's decided to get dinner worth that amount*

Answer:

  • Alexander's Loss Aversion
  • Jim's Mental accounting.

Explanation:

Loss Aversion: Some people are always frightened of losing and always try to avoid it by making irrational decisions which make their sufferings worst. <em>This</em> <em>scenario</em> is the example of loss aversion where the focus on gains is lost but all they see are failures.

  • <em>It is a common decision-making mistake people go for during which they will not leave until the loss is not realized </em>

In Alexander's case: He is trying to avoid losses and hoping that his investment would be saved although, the company he has invested in will soon go bankrupt. He should realize that before it gets too late and end up his sufferings.

Mental Accounting: It refers to the spending behavior by which people categorize the money they have often without logic.

For example: A person monthly earning is  $40, but suppose he gets only $30 for whatever reason, and he has to pay rent which is $35. So he is 5 dollars short but he had decided that he will eat chocolate worth $5 next month, so he will go for that chocolate even if he is short.

In Jim's case: He got $50 which he didn't have before, he could have used it for better purposes, than going to a dinner. Because he didn't have that amount before that.

You put aside $300 a month in an account that returns 9% a year, compounded monthly. How long do you need to contribute to save
Anettt [7]

Answer:

36 years 4 months and 2 days

Explanation:

Data provided in the question:

Monthly payment = $300

Rate of return, i = 9% = 0.09

Future value = $1,000,000

Now,

we know

Future value = Monthly payments × \left[ \frac{(1+i)^{n}-1}{i} \right]

or

1000000  = $300 × \left[ \frac{(1+0.0075)^{ }-1}{ 0.0075 }

or

\frac{ 1000000}{ 300} &= \frac{ 1.0075^{n} - 1}{ 0.0075}

3333.33333 &= \frac{ 1.0075^{n} - 1}{ 0.0075}

1.0075^{n} - 1 &= 3333.33333 \times0.0075

or

1.0075ⁿ - 1 = 25

or

1.0075ⁿ = 26

ln( 1.0075ⁿ) = ln(26)

or

n × ln( 1.0075 ) = ln(26)

or

n = [tex]\frac{ \ln (26) }{ \ln( 1.0075 ) }[tex]

or

n = 436.04  months

or

n = 36 years 4 months and 2 days

A sharp downturn in the U.S. housing market reduced the income of many who worked in the home construction industry. A Wall Stre
Shalnov [3]

Answer:

Answer is explained in the explanation section.

Explanation:

If the wages of the Hispanics construction worker in America are less then, they will not have near as much money to send home to their relatives back in Mexico.

And if their families do not have as much as it use to be then they will not be able to buy near as much as they used to.

It means that if the construction workers don't get as much money as they used to then, neither they nor their families  will be able to spend as much as they use to which will obviously hurt each of their economies.

Anon25 [30]

Answer:

The answer to this question is  C. Training and Development

Explanation:

Assigning Jack to a virtual mentoring group to learn about the culture of ACME global is an example of how social media helps business.

Before resumption of duties, the New employees alongside Jack would have been familiarized with the environment they will be working in and would have been exposed to some required knowledge they are suppose to have about their jobs and about the organisation itself.

Hence the scenario above is an example of how social media is used in  Training and Development
