Rabbits are not native species to Australia, they were introduced as a food for dogs and to be fed to poultry, however, the appropriate climate of Australia had resulted in the overpopulation of rabbits. This had further affected the native ecosystem that had resulted in the loss of vegetation, crops, and native species found in Australia.  

The rabbits indirectly assisted in sustaining the populations of fox and Ferrel cats that further resulted in enhanced predation of native species, which eventually resulted in their extinction. Thus, the introduction of rabbits resulted in the destruction of the native ecosystem.
