Answer 1 : Mami is using the attack of the termites to scare Negi into thinking it was a punishment. This could mean Mami seemed harsh with wanting to scare Negi. Negi would've believed Mami if she said the termites attacked on purpose for her misbehaving. This could mean Negi believed almost everything Mami said and was in fact a bit scared.

Answer 2 : I think she includes this story so reader could see what some of her childhood was like. Maybe readers could relate in some way.

Answer 3 : I think as a child, she did see the attack as a punishment but now looking back as an adult, she no longer thinks that. Probably because she finds his hard that Mami could have planned the termites attacking but "little her" didn't.

Answer 4 : The child might've thought of Mami as a bossy person while the adult remembers her as being funny as times and just trying to take care of her and teach her lessons. Thus saying the termite attack was a punishment.

Why might an author include dialect In a story? Check all that apply.
JulijaS [17]

Answer:

The reasons why an author might include dialect in a story are:

A. to allude to a character's regional background

C. to add to the cultural context of a story's setting

D. to allude to a character's social background

E. to create a more genuine dialogue between characters

Explanation:

A dialect is a variety of language used in a specific area or by a specific group. It is quite common for authors to use dialect in their stories, and there are many reasons for that.

For instance, in Zora Neale Hurston's works, dialect is used to represent the way the characters sound, which is directly connected to their cultural and social backgrounds. Her characters are African Americans who live in rural areas in the south. Many of them may not have had access to higher levels of formal education. Dialect also helps their dialogues sound more genuine, as if a real conversation had been recorded and transcribed. Had Hurston chosen to use formal language in her books, her characters would have been much less realistic and believable.
