Answer:

The Byzantine Empire was the continuation of the Roman Empire. It lasted till 1453. The byzantine empire maintained the Roman system of law and governance and Roman culture. The Byzantines called themselves Roman and the therm Byzantine came to use only after the fall of the Roman empire. The changes were that the capital was shifted to Constantinople from Rome and Christianity was declared the official religion. The Greek language came to replace the Latin.
