What do people do when they skim?

You look over the text, not necessarily reading, but then again they aren't not reading. In other words, they are picking out the bigger words/ more important words or parts of the story, they are skimming the text.

When people skim over a text they are scanning it and quickly searching for key words which will lead them to the information they need or want.
