What can be correctly concluded based on this excerpt from Leo Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich? At the law courts too, Ivan I

lyich noticed, or thought he noticed, a strange attitude towards himself. It sometimes seemed to him that people were watching him inquisitively as a man whose place might soon be vacant. Then again, his friends would suddenly begin to chaff him in a friendly way about his low spirits, as if the awful, horrible, and unheard-of thing that was going on within him, incessantly gnawing at him and irresistibly drawing him away, was a very agreeable subject for jests. Schwartz in particular irritated him by his jocularity, vivacity, and savoir-faire, which reminded him of what he himself had been ten years ago.
1.Ivan misses his former self before the fear of his impending death forced him to mend his ways.
2.Ivan looks forward to spending quality time with his friends, but not his family.
3.Ivan likes to share his innermost thoughts and feelings with his friends.
4.Ivan was pompous and fake until his impending death made him face the reality of his life.
5.Ivan found his friends to be caring and supportive during his illness after his bad fall.

Answer:

I think that what can be concluded based on this excerpt from Leo Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan Llynch is that Ivan was pompous and fake until his impending death made him face the reality of his life. The answer would be 4.

Explanation:

I think that the key to the answer is in the last sentence: "Schwartz in particular irritated him by his jocularity, vivacity, and savoir-faire, which reminded him of what he himself had been ten years ago." By saying this, we can understand how the speaker feels about himself before death made him face the reality. Now, he sees himself reflected in his friend's attitudes and he doesn't like what he sees, he feels he was kind of vain and maybe shallow.

I think it would be 1.Ivan misses his former self before the fear of his impending death forced him to mend his ways. Because in the paragraph it states that he has been remembering when it was 10 years ago about his old self with his friends.
