Wouldn't you think that after the wheel was invented, wheel technology would have taken off? Especially after a few thousand yea

rs?... But the early wheel had limitations. In places like the Middle East and North Africa, camels were already an easy and fairly reliable way to get around (even if they do like to spit all over their riders). But early wheels required flat and stable surfaces. Sand or uneven or wet terrain could sink a wheel and leave a person stranded.
