One could argue that the chorus in Antigone seems weak, bowing, as it seems to do, to Creon's tyrannous commands. Additionally,

the chorus does not attempt to represent the heroine favorably at any point before her death. How does this seeming submissiveness advance the tragedy?

The seeming submissiveness of the chorus advanced the tragedy of Antigone by emphasizing how alone Antigone is in her world. Everybody is submissive to the rule of the King and only Antigone is the one standing up and questioning the Kings' commands especially when it concerns the dead body of her brother.

It is like "Antigone against the world" where everyone is against her not because they dislike her personally but because they are afraid that they will be cast out just as Antigone was cast out.

Explanation:

The open window in literature can symbolize a new life, a new view of another world. It could bring new opportunities or gives hope. In this passage, the open window is used ironically. It could symbolize honesty, but this is ironically in this situation. There is the second explanation, also ironically. it can be meant appearance opposite from reality. The open window can present the reality of the view, the true picture in front of it, also the reality of the view opening from them.
