Plato's allegory of the cave represents the state of darkness that we are in before we see the light. Darkness and light are metaphors and represent enlightenment. For example, until you make the ascension you will find that your narrow thinking was impairing your view in life. Perhaps you may have thought you knew a concept and after further inspection, you find you were wrong. New knowledge transforms your person. Thus being open-minded and evolving represents Plato's allegory of the cave.
