Explanation:

I don't know about training. But General John J Pershing would become the lead General of the American Expeditionary Force in World War I. He was stationed at the border of Mexico (before the U.S. joined the war) to help dissolve issues with Poncho Villa. This experience would help when the United States would enter the war.
