The Great Dividing Range is also referred to as the Eastern highland and are the 3rd larget mount ranges in the world stretching approximately 3,500 kilometers on the entire length of the eastern Australian coastline. The width of the range span between 160 km and 300 km. It is believed the ranges were formed when the Australian continent collided with the that of New Zealand/ South America during the Carboniferous period which is over 300 million years ago.
