In Spanish, demonstrative adjectives are used to show where something is. Which one to use depends on how many things we are talking about, and how close they are to us.
If an object is right in front of us, we use "este", or "esta" (plural: "estos" or "estas"). If the object is a bit distant, we use "ese" or "esa" (plural: "esos" or "esas"). And if it´s not really that close, we use "aquel" or "aquella" (plural: "aquellos" or "aquellas"), such as in this case.
