Also, each brigade in Ferrero’s division trained for its role in Burnside’s carefully choreographed scheme. However, one day before the action, Burnside’s superior, Maj. Gen. This way, untrained and ill-prepared, Ledlie’s men led one of the Civil War’s most calamitous attacks.
