Here are your matches:

BRITAIN: leaders wanted to punish Germany but also wanted Germany to be economically strong

 • In particular, Prime Minister David Lloyd-George wanted to avoid going too far in punishing Germany, as he felt that weakening Germany would only hurt Britain, since Germany and Britain had long had trade relationships prior to the war.

RUSSIA: pulled out of the war following a revolution

BRITAIN: signed a peace treaty with Germany

 • Could possibly also list Russia - see note below.

GERMANY AND OTTOMAN EMPIRE: was part of the Central powers

OTTOMAN EMPIRE: ceased to exist following the war

GERMANY: forced to pay large reparations and take blame for causing the war

A note to explain some items above:

 • The Treaty of Versailles was signed by the victorious Allies, including Great Britain. They required the signature of Germany as the leader of the Central Powers. Germany signed under protest because of the harsh terms of the treaty.
 • Russia also signed a treaty with Germany and the other Central Powers nations (Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria). That was the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, which was the agreeement signed when Russia pulled out of the war.
 • The Central Powers included Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria.

Why is The Mayflower Compact of 1620 considered an important step in the development of democracy in America?
klio [65]
The Mayflower compact was considered a social contract, which greatly influenced the development of democracy as the founding fathers created a similar contract: the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation holds a contract to the people that their are certain parliaments that hold representatives for them, in other words a democracy. But as we soon find out this social contract was inefficient and failed, thus leading to the Great Compromise and the United States Constitution. Long story short, The Mayflower Compact set an example for the United States of America of keeping a social agreement between their people.

Why were the nomads good at trading?
Jobisdone [24]
Due to their lifestyle, nomads had a special relationship with trade. Nomads are people who do not settle and build cities in one place, but continuously travel. While other societies were able to stay put in one city, and generally figure out how to supply for all or most of their needs in these cities (agriculture, metallurgy, etc), nomads did not have this luxury.

Think of the nomadic people of Central Asia or the caravans of Arabia. These people traveled constantly, often having to find new sources of food and shelter. People with this lifestyle had to be good at trading. It was essential to their survival to figure out what people in various regions needed and were willing to trade for, and to supply those things when they arrived there. Nomads were more reliant on trade due to the nature of their lifestyle, and better at it for the same reason.

They also had the advantage of coming into contact with a diverse range of people, with different products and customs, and were able to serve as middle-men between these societies, enjoying the profits of playing such a role.
