At a casino, a combination of two spinners is used to decide the winner based on the sum of scores from spinning. the spinners e
Marizza181 [45]

Consider the table

\begin{array}{ccccc}\text{Spinners} & 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 \\1 & 1+1 & 1+2 & 1+3 & 1+4 \\2 & 2+1 & 2+2 & 2+3 & 2+4 \\3 & 3+1 & 3+2 & 3+3 & 3+4 \\4 & 4+1 & 4+2 & 4+3 & 4+4\end{array}

In this table are given all 16 possible outcomes of spinning two spinners. In rows the first number is the number that was spinned on 1st spinner and the second number is the number that was spinned on 2nd spinner. As you can see only 2 of them are those that give 3 in sum (1+2 and 2+1). Then the probability that the spinners land on colors summing up to exactly 3 is

Pr=\dfrac{2}{16}=\dfrac{1}{8}=0.125.

Answer: Pr=\dfrac{1}{8}=0.125.

Petra has 49 blue marbles and two red marbles. How many marbles must Petra remove so that
Hoochie [10]

I'm assuming Petra is only removing blue marbles, and she is keeping the 2 red marbles the whole time.

If so, then she starts with 49 blue marbles and ends up with 49-x blue marbles after removing x blue marbles. Overall she starts with 49+2 = 51 marbles total and ends up with 51-x marbles total after taking away x blue marbles.

(49-x)/(51-x) represents the proportion of blue marbles after we take those blue ones away. We want the proportion to be 0.90

(49-x)/(51-x) = 0.90

49-x = 0.90(51-x)

49-x = 0.90(51)+0.90(-x)

49-x = 45.9-0.90x

-x+0.90x = 45.9-49

-0.10x = -3.1

x = -3.1/(-0.10)

x = 31

<h3>Petra must remove 31 blue marbles so that 90% of the marbles are blue.</h3><h3>Answer: (E) 31</h3>
