Selection 1 is a Modern Gothic story. Using your knowledge of the characteristics of this genre, you can most reasonably predict that —

Tom and Martha’s recent bad luck will turn out to be the result of an elaborate practical joke.

Martha’s suspicion that Gus is haunting them will be reinforced by further mysterious events.

Martha will go into therapy and successfully overcome her belief that Gus is haunting them.

Tom will pull himself together after he is offered a new job with a good future.

Answer:

Martha’s suspicion that Gus is haunting them will be reinforced by further mysterious events.

Explanation:

The question is incomplete, but from previous knowledge of Gothic literature, the most likely answer is option B.

Gothic literature is known for use of the supernatural to create fear and suspicion. Therefore, Martha's suspicion that Gus is haunting them will be reinforced by more mysterious and supernatural happening.

The other options do not fit the theme of Goth literature.

Debora [2.8K]

This question is incomplete, here´s the complete question.

Dr. Martin Luther King´s Letter from Birmingham Jail and Franklin Roosevelt’s "Four Freedoms" speech.

Write an essay in which you explain how the two documents explore people's fundamental human rights and what the two authors want done to end the injustice.

Answer:

King´s Letter expresses his strategy of non-violent resistance to end racism, claiming that people have a moral responsibility to break unjust laws.

Roosevelt´s speech envisioned a quartet of essential freedoms, hoping to inspire people to fight against injustice.

Explanation:

On January 6, 1941, Roosevelt´s speech outlined the possibility of a new world order based on four essential human freedoms: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. All of this would later be a part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Roosevelt´s call to fight against injustice was linked to the rising of Hitler’s fascist regime.

On April 16, 1963, King wrote his letter as his answer to “A Call for Unity”, signed by eight white clergymen that objected to King´s nonviolent protests against segregation in Birmingham.

Having been accused of taking the battle against social injustices into the streets instead of doing so only in the courts, King stated that direct actions were required to obtain actual civil rights, describing civil disobedience as justified in the face of unjust laws and even a moral responsibility.
