Answer:

3/2 =x

Step-by-step explanation:

1/8 = x/12

Solve using cross products

1 * 12 = 8x

12 = 8x

Divide each side by 8

12/8 =8x/8

3/2 =x

Find the shortest side of a triangle whose perimeter is 64 if the ratio of two of its sides is 4:3 and the third side is 20 less
Sergio039 [100]

Answer:

The shortest side of the triangle is 18

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the sides the triangle be x, y and z.

From the question, the perimeter of the rectangle is 64, that is

x + y + z = 64 ...... (1)

Also, the ratio of two of its sides is 4:3, that is x:y = 4:3, then we can write that x/y = 4/3 ⇒ 3x = 4y ...... (2)

The third side, z, is 20 less than the sum of the other two, that is

z + 20 = x + y ...... (3)

Substitute equation (3) into (1)

Then,

z + 20 + z = 64

2z +20 = 64

2z = 64 - 20

2z = 44

z = 44/2 k

z = 22

From equation (3)

z + 20 = x + y

Then, k

22 + 20 = x +y

42 = x + y

x = 42 - y ...... (4)

Substitute this into equation 2

3x = 4y

3(42-y) = 4y

126 - 3y = 4y

4y + 3y = 126

7y = 126

y = 126/7

y = 18

Substitute this into equation (4)

x = 42 - y

x = 42 - 18

x = 24

∴ x = 24, y = 18 and z = 22

Hence, the shortest side of the triangle is 18.

Blank times blank equals 29
djverab [1.8K]

If you agree to accept fractions and decimals, then
there are an infinite number of correct answers.

If you want to stick to whole numbers, then there is
only one correct answer:

         1 times 29 = 29 .

For the function f(x) = 4x^3 -36x^2 + 5: (a) find the critical numbers, (b) find the open intervals where the function is increa
Nataly_w [17]

\bf f(x)=4x^3-36x^2+5\implies \cfrac{df}{dx}=12x^2-72x\implies \stackrel{\textit{setting the derivative to 0}}{0=12x(x-6)} \\\\\\ x= \begin{cases} 0\\ 6 \end{cases}

so we have those critical values, which gives us the intervals of (-∞, 0] , [0, 6] and [6, +∞).

where is it increasing or decreasing?  well, that's just a matter of checking a value on each region for the the first derivative, namely the first derivative test.

we can check for f(-1) = 12(-1)² - 72(-1),  is a positive value, increasing.

and check f(1) = 12(1)² - 72(1), is a negative value, decreasing.

and check f(7) = 12(7)² - 72(7), positive, so increasing.

check the picture below, and you can see there which are the minima or maxima.
