In this course, students will engage in scientific inquiry, explore biochemistry, the cell, bio-energy,
mechanisms of genetics, and biotechnology. Students will also study change in organisms over time,
classification, and ecosystems. This course is designed to prepare students for A.P. Biology. Lab
experiences are an integral part of the course too. Common Core Literacy Standards for Science
and ISTE Technology Standards were reviewed and included.

Teachers used Course Level Expectation standards, previous curriculum, current curriculum
template, and content knowledge to develop this curriculum. The new curriculum supports
Biology standards as well as preparing students for A.P. Biology. The course continues to focus
on science transfer goals that transfer vertically among all science classes. It also supports the
Common Core Literacy Standards for Science and ISTE Technology Standards for Science.
This new curriculum is designed to increase rigor and relevance while preparing students to 21st
century learners. These students will be well prepared for semester exams and the Biology
E.O.C. exam.
