How did the original age discrimination in employment act expand the rights of older workers?

History

The original age discrimination in employment act expandes the rights of older workers as it prevented employers from forcing workers under the age of 70 to retire.

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, or ADEA, was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The goal of the Act was to protect workers 40 years of age and older from being victims of employment discrimination. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission enforces the ADEA, and employers that violate the Act are subject to stiff penalties and fines.
