But the weird part about this particular bell was that it was<em> "a dummy"</em>, and <em>"it is not even attached to a wire.[. . .] it is fastened to a hook just above where the little opening for the ventilator is."</em> This means that the bell was just a means for something else other than summoning the housekeeper.
