Past Continuous tense is primarily employed to denote an 'on-going action of the past' that started in a time before now and continued for a while(in the past). It is formed by using the auxiliary verb 'was/were'(to denote past) followed by the progressive form of the main verb('verb + ing' to reflect the continuity). The given sentences could be filled by using this rule to signal to the progression of the action in the past.
Not so long ago, there was a night when even the crickets were still. The sky was an ominous grey as the stars came out from their hiding places. Most filled the air with their radiance. Others slowly faded into view, like a shy kitten. But even before the dimmest of stars could come into view, thunderous clouds rolled in, abrupt to the beginning of the glorious eve. A brisk wind swept the land, arousing a sound from the serene night. The storm descended upon the land from above, threatening all in its wake.
Here’s a first paragraph, good luck!
The years when Shakespeare left Stratford for London are not very well known, but here are some possible reasons why he might have made the move!
1. An obvious reason for Shakespeare to move would be that there was a ton more theatre in London than Stratford. There were some acting troupes that made it out there, but if Shakespeare really wanted to be an actor and a playwright he needed to be in the big city.
2. Another crazy reason that we have a little proof on is that Shakespeare illegally poached a deer off of Sir Thomas Lucy's land. He then moved to London so that he could escape the punishment for that crime.
3. A possible reason that Shakespeare might have left is because of sickness in Stratford. We know that it spread at least to his son who died years after he moved to England, but it could have been a possibility that there was sickness in the town already that Shakespeare wanted to get away from.
