First, you add like terms.  In this case, the like terms are 6 and 3.

4x + 6 + 3 = 17
4x + 9 = 17

Then, subtract 9 on each side:

4x + 9 - 9 = 17 - 9
4x = 8

Then divide by 4 on each side to get the x by itself:

4x/4 = 8/4
x = 2

4x+6+3 = 17

4x+9 =17

4x = 8

4x/4 = 8/4

x = 2.

Hope this helps

What is the slope of the line containing the midpoint of the segment with endpoints at $(2, 4)$ and $(0, -2)$ and the midpoint o
oksian1 [2.3K]

The Midpoint 1 = (1,1), Mid point 2 = (3,3 ) and slope is 1 of the given points of the line.

<h3>What is the slope of line?</h3>

The slope of a line segment is a measure of the steepness of the line segment. It is the ratio of rise (the change in vertical height between the endpoints) over run (the change in horizontal length between the endpoints.

The slope of a line is a measure of its steepness. Mathematically, slope is calculated as "rise over run" (change in y divided by change in x).

Whenever the equation of a line is written in the form y = mx + b, it is called the slope-intercept form of the equation. The m is the slope of the line.

Midpoints of 1 line segment are -

= (2+0 / 2 , 4-2 / 2)

= (1,1)

Mid points of line 2 =

= (5+1 / 2, 1+5 / 2)

= (3,3)

slope  -

The required slope = rise / run

= (y1-y2)/(x1-x2)

= (1-3)/(1-3)

= 1

Therefore, the Midpoint 1 = (1,1), Mid point 2 = (3,3 ) and slope is 1 of the given points of the line.

While testing a new pesticide, an agricultural scientist uses two functions to predict the yields of two same-sized potato farms
Pepsi [2]

Answer:

A. h(x)= -5.86x^2 + 23.37x + 34

Step-by-step explanation:

If the scientist uses the same amount of pesticide on the two farms then the x's of the functions are the same.

Then, the combined yield h(x) of the two farms is just the yield of the first farm plus the yield of the second farm:

h(x)=f(x)+g(x).

Now, since

f(x)= -2.43x^2+10.37x+9

and

g(x)= -3.43x^2+13x+25,

then

h(x)= (-2.43x^2+10.37x+9)+(-3.43x^2+13x+25)

we add the coefficients of the  corresponding terms to get:

h(x)= (-2.43x^2-3.43x^2)+(10.37x+13x)+(9+25)

\boxed {h(x)=-5.86 x^2 + 23.37 x + 34.}

Which is choice A.

What is an equation of the line that passes through the points (0, -1)(0,−1) and (6, 1)(6,1)?
horrorfan [7]

slope = y2 - y1 \div x2 - x1

1 -  - 1 \div 6 - 0

2 \div 6

1 \div 3

y = mx + c

1 = 1 \div 3 \times 6 + c

1 = 2 + c

c = 3

y = 1 \div 3x + 3
