A hanging wire made of an alloy of aluminum with diameter 0.11 cm is initially 2.2 m long. When a 34 kg mass is hung from it, th

e wire stretches an amount 1.24 cm. A mole of aluminum has a mass of 27 grams, and its density is 2.7 g/cm3. Based on these experimental measurements, what is Young's modulus for this alloy of aluminum?
Y = ???? N/m2

As you've done before, from the mass of one mole and the density you can find the length of the interatomic bond (diameter of one atom). This is 2.55 10-10 m for aluminum. As shown in the textbook, the micro quantity ks,i (the stiffness of one interatomic bond) can be related to the macro property Y:

ks,i = ?????? N/m

Answer:

Explanation:

Given that d = 0.11cm = 0.0011m, l = 2.2m, extension = 1.24cm = 0.0124m, mass = 34kg

force = 34 x 9.81 = 333.54N, Area = Pi x d²/4 = 3.142 x 0.0011^2/4 = 9.505x10^-7m²

Calculate the stress = Force/Area = 333.54N / 9.505x10^-7m²

= 350926661.4N/m²

calculate the strain = extension/original length

= 0.0124 / 2.2 = 0.00563

Young modulus of elasticity = Stress/Strain = 350926661.4N/m² /  0.00563

= 6.2332 x 10^10Pa

MA_775_DIABLO [31]

The fish use reacting behavioural mechanism in order to protect itself from the danger.

The fish uses reacting behavioural mechanism when the fish sense any type of danger surrounds it. This behaviour is a type of defense mechanisms which is used to defend and protect itself.

The fish apply electric shock in order to protect itself from the attackers and give harm to the other organisms which comes in contact with it so we can conclude that the fish use reacting behavioural mechanism in order to protect itself from the danger.

2.4.4 discuss investigate how pollutants affect plants environmental science sem 2 this worksheet will help you orgainize your t
zhenek [66]

Answer:

Since the nature of pollutants is not mentioned in the question, several speculations can be made here.

  1. Pollutants can affect the photosynthesis: Some pollutants are toxic to plant metabolic reactions such as photosynthesis. This is because of their oxidative nature that can damage the photosystems. This ultimately impairs the plant functioning, e.g. ozone in the air.
  2. Pollutants can affect the plant-associated microbial communities: Some pollutants such as antibiotics can target plant-associated bacterial communities that are required for plant health. Just like the human gut, plants also have beneficial bacteria that live inside the plant tissues. These bacteria are called endophytes. The harmful nature of the compounds can affect those bacteria which decreases plant fitness.
  3. Pollutants can compete with nutrients that act as limiting factors: Some pollutants are hydrophobic in nature and make the beneficial nutrients less available to the plants. Likewise, some pollutants reduce the bioavailability of plant necessary nutrients directly. This results in reduced growth and development in plants.
  4. Pollutants can cause physical damages to plant tissues: Some pollutants are highly reactive in nature and can cause physical damages to the plants. This will result in the attack of pathogens at the wound site which can later take control of host metabolic machinery at later stages. Resultantly, plant fitness is decreased and in some cases, it dies off completely.

It is important to consider that some pollutants are taken up easily by plants whereas other pollutants are difficult. This is because of their water solubility criteria. If a pollutant can be taken up by plant directly, it can cause more damages to the plant as compared to the pollutant which interacts from outside.
