Answer:    Prohibition

Explanation: Due to the large number of immigrants who arrived in the US during the period preceding the 1920's, there has been an increase in the number of people without jobs, crime, bullying, violence, etc. Proponents of the ban argued that a ban on alcohol sales would reduce crime and alcoholism. However, the ban has in reality encouraged illegal transport, bottling and sale of alcohol. This again increased crime due to the myriad of gangs involved in the illegal sale of alcohol, and the period was known for unprecedented gang clashes due to a desire to dominate the black alcohol market.

Leokris [45]

Answer: Compromise of 1850

The Compromise of 1850 was a series of five laws that were passed in September of 1850 to deal with the issue of slavery. In 1849, California requested permission to enter the Union as a free state, potentially altering the balance between the free and the slave states in the Senate. The document was introduced as an attempt to seek a compromise between North and South and avoid a crisis.

As part of this compromise, the Fugitive Slave Act was amended and the slave trade in Washington, D. C. was abolished.

NemiM [27]

Guilds performed a variety of important functions in the local economy.
