It will increase the amount of carbon (dioxide) in a two-fold way.

1: Lack of trees

2: Introduction of machinery for drilling and transportation

Explanation:

Trees (and plants) convert carbon dioxide of the atmosphere into oxygen gas by photosynthesis. With no or fewer trees, more carbon dioxide gas will remain the atmosphere.

Since they have cleared the area for fuel, there would be a lot of machinery for drilling and transportation. This too would result in extra carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere.

Moreover, the polluted air, water, and land will cause further decrease in flora (plant life) and fauna (animal life) of the nearby areas.
