Which statement best describes 0 latitude?
Wittaler [7]

Answer:

C. An imaginary line that splits Earth in half between the North Pole and the South Pole

Explanation:

The 0-degree latitude line is the equator. It is the only line of latitude that is a great circle. The equator divides the earth equally between the North Pole and the South pole.

Places above the equator are the northern hemisphere whereas, those below fall into the southern hemisphere.

  • The equator is the only known great circle.
  • All other lines of latitudes are small circles.
  • Most places along the equator usually have the sun overhead and receive direct insolation.

Other choices are wrong;

  • The northernmost point on earth is the north pole
  • An imaginary line that runs through Greenwich in London is the Prime meridian
  • The southernmost point of Earth is the south pole.

blsea [12.9K]
