According to Herodotus, at the top of each ziggurat was a shrine, although none of these shrines have survived. One practical function of the ziggurats was a high place on which the priests could escape rising water that annually inundated lowlands and occasionally flooded for hundreds of miles, for example the 1967 flood. Another practical function of the ziggurat was for security. Since the shrine was reachable only by way of three stairways, a small number of guards could prevent non-priests from spying on the rituals at the shrine on top of the ziggurat, such as initiation rituals such as the Eleusinian mysteries, cooking of sacrificial food and burning of carcasses of sacrificial animals. Each ziggurat was part of a temple complex that included a courtyard, storage rooms, bathrooms, and living quarters, around which a city was built

Think about what you learned about speculation, buying on margin, and the stock market. Choose the
Lemur [1.5K]

Answer:

In order for "buying on the margin" to work in the long run, stock values have to  rise.

Explanation:

For stock buying to work in the long run, stock values must rise. This is because it will be necessary to buy them within the concept of speculation, where the buyer and the investor have the hope that this action will generate profits. However, the risk of this type of investment is very high and, therefore, if the shares assume low values, they will not compensate for the purchase in relation to the venture's risk.

What was one effect of the Hundred Years’ War?
PtichkaEL [24]

Answer:

the destruction of French towns and farms

Explanation:

The 100 years' War was fought between the Kingdom of France and the Kingdom of England, however, it was fought entirely on French Soil, including English-controlled French areas.

These made the English particularly harsh in their treatment of the French peasantry, and in their war tactics. They used a scorched-earth tactic, in which they destroyed farms, towns, and depleted resources. They did so to prevent the French Army from obtaining much needed supplies.

In , the Communists won the civil war and the People's Republic of China was formed.
emmasim [6.3K]

Correct answer:  1949

<u>Details</u>:

Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong declared the establishment of The People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949.  This was after victory in the Chinese civil war that had been waged since 1945, immediately after the Second World War had ended.  In the civil war, ultimately Chinese nationalists were defeated and driven from mainland China.

For a long time, the world community (as represented by the United Nations) refused to recognize the People's Republic of China as legitimate, and continued to look at the Republic of China -- the Chinese national government in exile on the island of Taiwan -- as the legitimate government of China.  It was not until 1971 that the People's Republic of China was recognized and given membership status in the UN.
