A likely indirect result of their tumultuous relationship is increased stress for their children.
If this couple fights a lot, it is going to affect their children as well because they will be living in a household where they are witnessing conflicts and the lack of love almost each day. They will be anxious all the time, which will then negatively affect their mental state, and thus their lives in general.

A tumultous relationship with lots of conflict can be a good thing for a marriage if it means that at least one or both of the partners are being very open about their feelings and not keeping them bottled up so that they can be dealt with out in the open and resolved whereas harboring them or resentment can boil up later and damage the relationship if it is left to fester.

Paraphin [41]

Answer:

The protagonist handles the conflict quite poorly in the beginning of the story because he is so hungry and lose hope, this is stated "Hunger made our envy as dull and feeble as all our other feelings. We had no strength left for feelings, to search for easier work, to walk, to ask, to beg." but then gets the urge for freedom. Because the protagonist is in the gulag and his friend has found a map to escape and chooses to go with his friend, this is stated “I’m willing,” I said, opening my eyes. “Only I’ve got to feed myself up first.”. the outcome from the conflict is them trying to escape due to the poor conditions.
