Chris McCandless is a hero because by showing his bravery, strength, and individualism to break away from social norms and live the life he wanted to live instead of the one other people expected him to.

Chris Mccandless wasn't a hero but he was inspirational because of his travels and death many people went out and traveled just like he did. Following his footprints they set out to Alaska and journeyed the same path even though they knew it might be dangerous. Chris wasn't a hero but he did do what a lot of people where afraid to do, live.

Which statement best expresses the central idea of the text ( the puzzle of altruism)
DerKrebs [107]

The puzzle of altruism is best stated in the opening line that wonders if altruism does opposite of what it means to.

Explanation:

Altruism is a murky territory. It is one of the core values of humanity in the modern sense in that the people acknowledge that there is a need to give back to less fortunate ones if one is in fact, fortunate.

But then again, there is a thing that the altruism may only lead to more altruism and not actual independence from the need of altruism as it does not build, it merely provides.

Thus, until there is a way to use such altruism effectively this will be an issue pervading them.
