The correct answer is D) Spain lost its power.

The defeat of the Spanish Armada was significant in that D) Spain lost its power.

We are talking about the defeat of the Spanish Armada against the British Armada in 1558.  The Spaniards were known for its great Armada, approximately 130 ships that -for that time- was an impressive number. King Philip II of Spain sent the Spanish Armada to remove Queen Elizabeth I of England that was Protestant. Philip wanted to restore the Catholic Church in Britain. But what happened was that England defeated the Spanish Armada and the victory strengthened the military of Great Britain.

The other options of the question were A) Spain had expected to be defeated by England. B) Philip II was executed because of his failure. C) Spain had to defend its territory.
