To reinforce her argument, she shows evidence of how the lack of habit of reading, any type of book, has impacted Americans not only on a personal level, but on an economic and civic level as well, since reading provides a strong knowledge in these areas. According to her, when these things are affected in an individual who is not in the habit of reading, the whole society suffers and the whole nation becomes weakened.
