A shark and a dolphin have similarly shaped bodies and fins

Biology

The similarly shaped bodies and fins of the shark and the dolphin are a result of convergent evolution and development of analogous structures.

Explanation:

The animals can differ a lot in their appearance, or look alike a lot, but very often the looks can be deceiving when it comes to determining their relations. In some cases, some animals differ greatly in their appearance, but they are much more closely related than some organisms that look very similar to one another. A nice example of animals that look alike a lot but are not closely related are the shark and the dolphin.

The shark and the dolphin have their common ancestors hundreds of millions of years ago, thus they are anything but closely related, with the shark being a fish, while the dolphin being a mammal. The resemblance in the appearance though has been a result of a convergent evolution, or rather trying to solve the same problems, in the same environment, in the same or similar manner. Because of it, analogous structures developed, making them look very similar.

Some of the structures among the animals are:

  • analogous structures
  • homologous structures
  • vestigial structures

if the primary gear ratio in a drill is 4:1 and secondary gear ratio is also 4:1 what is the overall gear ratio of the drill
Radda [10]
I believe the answer would be 16:1
This can be looked at by assuming the motor speed is say 2000 RPM. Through the first reduction it is reduced 4 times to 500 RPM. The second reduction of 4:1 reduces it down to 125 RPM. The total reduction is the motor speed of 2000 RPM divided by the final speed of 125 or 16. A gear ratio is the ratio used to determine the angular speed and torque of a geared system.

Which would most affect the health of fish in a local pond?
QveST [7]

D. The daily release of hot water into the pond from a local factory.

Explanation:

The daily release of hot water into the pond from a local factory would most likely affect the health of fish in a local pond.

Fishes are cold blooded animals. They derive their temperature from the water around them. They need a fairly stable daily temperature.

If the temperature of the water varies to a large extent too much daily, they will suffer.

Hot water will affect the fish population badly. It will cause the fishes to die off and suffer from too much increase in temperature.

Other factors listed in the options will improve the fish life.
