Answer:

1) He felt the Christians were the infidels who needed to be forced out of the Holy Land. - In a way, Saladin launched his own crusade and fought the christians in Egypt and Palestine. His victory at the Battle of Hattin was decisive. At the end of the crusades, the christians were expelled from the Holy Land.

2) Pope Urban II - He convinced many european noblemen and warriors, especially from France, to retake the Holy Land and aid the Byzantine Empire against the muslim armies.

3) Peter the Hermit - He was a french priest. He not only led the People's Crusade, but also participated in several massacres against the jews who lived in the Holy Roman Empire (modern-day Germany).

4)To secure his own power over the church - a few years before, the catholic church and the eastern orthodox church had split, and this reduced the power and authority of the Pope. Besides, Pope Urban II had to face the opposition from Antipope Clement III, who questioned his authority. Pope Urban II therefore needed to strengthen his power.

5) Louis IX - He was king of France and led the Seventh Crusade. They were defeated in Egypt and sent back to France. He tried again and took part in the eight crusade, but died of disentery shortly after.

6) Richard fought against Saladin, but eventually participated in a truce with him - Richard had a victory against Saladin, but with years, the war exhausted both leaders and a truce was negotiated. This treaty is known as the Treaty of Jaffa and allowed christian pilgrims to travel to Jerusalem, which remained under muslim control.

How much power do the states have in a confederate system of government?
ella [17]

Answer:

In a confederate system of government, the majority of political power is based on the local government, while the central government has very little power. Local government has the power to act as they wish, which can cause conflicts between states and the central government.

The Confederation represents an alliance between states, reinforced by a common ruling body that has no higher central authority that would give the Confederacy a mark of sovereignty. The Confederation does not have any of the three state governments (legislative, executive, judicial).

Explanation:

The implementation of decisions is made unanimously (which carries a risk of inefficiency) and depends on the will of the member states because they implement decisions.

The Confederation, as a legal relationship between states, has neither a central authority, nor its territory, nor its population. The states sign an international treaty, not a constitution, so member states have both a veto right and a secession right. Therefore, the confederation cannot be even considered as a state, but rather an enhanced form of the alliance between states.

Why did some civil rights activists support the idea of staging violent protests?
nasty-shy [4]

Answer:

b) They felt that violence would be justified as self-defense

Explanation:

The Civil Rights movement emerged as a response to structural racism. Up until the 1960s, Afroamericans experienced policies of segregation that prevented them to access quality jobs, education, health care and basic services. In other words, segregation laws implied that Afroamerican population could not use the same public amenities as white Americans. This included but was not limited to hospitals, schools, public transportation and even buying land. Under these laws, interracial marriage was banned as well. Many historians argue that the spark that ignited the movement was Rosa Parks' refusal to give her seat to a white man in 1955. Under segregation laws, the Afro-American population of Montgomery, Alabama, had to sit at the back of buses. So when the white man entered the bus, the driver ordered her (and three more Afro-Americans) to gave up their seats. Rosa Refused and was arrested. Then the Montgomery Improvement Asociation, under the leadership of Rv Martin Luther King, launched a campaign to boycott the Montgomery Bus System. From there, the Civil Rights movement flourished.

The movement faced State violence and mass arrest. The movement branched and took a diversity of forms. Some of the activist, like Rev. Martin Luther King, argued in favour of civil disobedience and pacific action. However, other activists believed the violence they were subjected justified their self-defence in a violent way.

Unluckily, American society still experiences heavy forms of system racism. It is not, therefore, a surprise that the BLM emerged during the last decade.
