The way to do this easily is to first determine the equation for your particular situation.  Yesterday she read 75 pages, so that 75 pages is our starting point today, plus 2 pages per minute which is expressed as 2x.  So our equation is y=2x + 75.  The table with the negative x value...forget it.  The two things in math that will NEVER be negative are length/distance and time, so no negative x values allowed.  From the first table, after 2 minutes of reading, our equation would be y = 2(2) + 75 and y = 79.  So far so good, but let's try another x value just in case. After 14 minutes of reading, our equation is y = 2(14) + 75 and y = 103.  Not the y value from the table.  So that's not it either.  Moving down we go to the third table.  After 0 minutes of reading, we KNOW we haven't read 0 pages because yesterday we read 75. So if x = 0, then y has to = 75.  So that's not it either.  We're running out of possibilities.  The last table gives us x = 0 and y = 75, so we already know that's right.  After 11 minutes of reading, y = 2(11) + 75 and y = 97.  Ok, one more.  After 20.25 minutes, y = 2(20.25) + 75 and y = 115.5.  The last table is our choice.

Order each step and justification that is needed to solve the equation below. 2/3y+ 15=9
notsponge [240]

[ Answer ]

Y = -9

[ Explanation ]

Subtract 15 from both sides:

2/3y + 15 - 15 = 9 - 15

Simplify:

2/3y = -6

Multiply each side by 3:

3 * 2/3y = 3 (-6)

Simplify:

2y = -18

Divide both sides by 2:

2y / 2 = -18/2

y = -9

Find the area and round to the nearest tenth: Diameter equals 5 1/2 yards
sammy [17]
The formula for area of a circle is A=rsquared*3.14. Divide 5.5/2 to get 2.75. Mulitply 2.75 times 2.75 to get approximately 7.56. Then, multiply that times 3.14 to get approximately 23.74.

Answer=23.74 yards

Suppose that S is the set of successful students in a classroom, and that F stands for the set of freshmen students in that clas
lora16 [44]

Answer:

b) 24

Step-by-step explanation:

We solve building the Venn's diagram of these sets.

We have that n(S) is the number of succesful students in a classroom.

n(F) is the number of freshmen student in that classroom.

We have that:

n(S) = n(s) + n(S \cap F)

In which n(s) are those who are succeful but not freshmen and n(S \cap F) are those who are succesful and freshmen.

By the same logic, we also have that:

n(F) = n(f) + n(S \cap F)

The union is:

n(S \cup F) = n(s) + n(f) + n(S \cap F)

In which

n(S \cup F) = 58

n(s) = n(S) - n(S \cap F) = 54 - n(S \cap F)

n(f) = n(F) - n(S \cap F) = 28 - n(S \cap F)

So

n(S \cup F) = n(s) + n(f) + n(S \cap F)

58 = 54 - n(S \cap F) + 28 - n(S \cap F) + n(S \cap F)

n(S \cap F) = 24

So the correct answer is:

b) 24
