In his work with pneumonia-causing bacteria, Frederick Griffith found that a non-pathogenic strain had been transformed into a p

athogenic strain. Which of the following explanations best describes the phenomenon of transformation? It refers to transfer of genetic material between bacteria through direct cell to cell contact. It refers to introduction of genetic material into animal cells. It refers to genetic material taken up from the environment through bacterial cell walls.

Answer:

The correct answer will be it refers to genetic material taken up from the environment through bacterial cell walls.

Explanation:

Frederick Griffith performed the series of experiments on Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria and mice in 1928.

For this he used two strains of the bacteria:

1. S-strain: with polysaccharide coating which gave a smooth appearance to the bacteria and providing resistance from the immunity of the host. Thus, they were virulent strains.

2. R-strain: without polysaccharide which were avirulent strains as they lacked smooth coating.

When he injected R bacteria with heat-killed S bacteria the mice died although R bacteria was avirulent while the virulent S strain was dead due to heat.

He concluded that R strains have been transformed into S strain bacteria through a mechanism called "transformation" via a physiological state of cell called competence in which the living bacterial cells took the foreign DNA across their cell membrane which got incorporated into its genome through genetic recombination.

Thus, It refers to genetic material taken up from the environment through bacterial cell walls is the correct answer.

Angiosperms are more advanced than gymnosperms because gymnosperms lack which structure found in angiosperms?
vlada-n [284]

Gymnosperms lack fruits so angiosperms are more advanced than them.

Compared to gymnosperms, flowering plants may thrive in a wider range of settings. Compared to gymnosperms, flowering plants mature more quickly and generate more seeds. Additionally, angiosperms have more complex and specialized woody tissues. Gymnosperms lack flowers and fruits and have unenclosed or coverless seeds on the surface of scales or leaves, in contrast to angiosperms, generally known as flowering plants, which have seeds that are contained within an ovary (typically a fruit).

Roan coat color in cattle develops through incomplete dominance of the gene for red color and its allele for white. what crossin
slava [35]
Roan is a combination of white hairs with red hairs. When we see cattle like this, they look pink because it resulted from a mix of white and red.

Red allele: A
White allele: a

A heterozygotic animal has this genotype: Aa
Like i said previously this is the mixture of colors so the animal would be pink.

A red coat color has this genotype: AA
A white coat color has this genotype: aa

To get all the herd to be roan-colored cattle the combination of parents should be: AA x aa. -> 100% roan
Another possible way to obtain would beroan-colored cattle: Aa x Aa or aa x Aa (in this case there would be less probabable to obtain road).

The diagram shows a bacterium. Which labels best complete the diagram
Sliva [168]

Answer:

X - Flagellum, Y - Bacterial DNA, Z - Cytoplasm

Explanation:

A bacterium is a living thing that are majorly known for causing diseases but are important for human life.

A bacterium is also consist of several organelles such as cell wall, cytoplasm, flagellum, bacterial DNA, cytoplasm, ribosomes and others.

The diagram shows three main organelles that are X - Flagellum, Y - Bacterial DNA, Z - Cytoplasm. Flagella functions for the locomotion of the bacteria, bacterial DNA is a genetic material of the bacteria, and cytoplasm is a gel-like matrix composed of enzymes, water, nutrients and other waste material.

Hence, the correct answer is "X - Flagellum, Y - Bacterial DNA, Z - Cytoplasm".
