Answer:

That the event took place in the past continuously but concluded prior to a past event, in this case that the subject found another job.

Explanation:

The past perfect continuous tense, also known as the past perfect progressive, shows that an action that started in the past continued up until another time in the past. The past perfect is formed by had been + the verb’s present participle, root + -ing. In this example, the sentence tell us that before the subject changed his job, the gramps had been already coaching or tutoring students at the local college.

Answer:

It reveals the order things happened in the past: the first action is, in this case, pointed out by the use of Past Perfect or Past Perfect Progressive and the second action or actions are written in Past Simple, because they happened afterwards.

Explanation:

When we have two actions in the past, you have to use Past Perfect (when you emphasize a fact) or Past Perfect Progressive (when you emphasize an action in progress) to point out which action had happened first. The other tenses are written in Past Simple to point out that they happened after the one which had been written in Past Perfect or Past Perfect Progressive.

When I was young enough to still spend a long time buttoning my shoes in the morning, I’d listen toward the hall: Daddy upstairs
g100num [7]
In the above excerpt Welty was using sensory details (principally sounds) to bring her story to life, She could hear her father shaving, and her mother cooking breakfast. She could hear the whispers and whistles and the clattering of shoes as she raced downstairs. She remembered he sound of the old Victrola. She could smell the bacon frying. Through all of these sensory impressions Welty has built a vivid and memorable picture of her childhood.

How can we say that junk food has become a global culture.
tatyana61 [14]

Answer:

Junk food has become a global culture because it is convenient and you can basically eat it anywhere.

Explanation:

In this modern day and age, people are always busy, no matter what your job/work is. Because of this work environment, maintaining health is not a priority. Just thinking about eating and munching down food is enough for an average person without looking out for the health components of the food. At the end of the day, we want something sweet, something we crave. Health is not a huge motivator in that time frame. Junk food has also been very convenient when it comes to emotional fulfillment. You can just much on it while wallowing in all of your problems and quite frankly, it can be a great companion. Not for your bodily systems though.
