The Wixen vs Spotify Case, was a case that involved copyright issues in regards to various songs from various artists. Wixen exposed that Spotify was using the artists they represented illegally without Wixen’s approval or a direct mechanical license. In addition to it, Spotify didn’t want to send the papers necessary for this business to be clear and legal. Spotify failed to pay artists their royalties and had a statutory damage per song which end up in a lawsuit of $1.6 billion. In the end, Wixen and Spotify came to an agreement and they formed a partnership. Copyright refers to the legal rights you have over your own product, and that anyone without your authority cannot reproduce it. Record Labels in this case are who own the copyright of the songs written by their artists. That is the reason Wixen was able to make this lawsuit.
