In contrast to authors from the Romanticism movement who put too much emphasis on emotion, imagination, and their subjective views on reality, authors from the Realism movement focused on depicting the lives of ordinary people, common settings and social realities in general as they were, without trying to embellish them and without avoiding the unpleasant aspects of life.
