Natural selection acts for the good of the species. The fittest organisms in a population are those that are strongest, healthiest, fastest, and/or largest. Natural selection is about survival of the very fittest individuals in a population. Natural selection produces organisms perfectly suited to their environments.

Respiratory cilia are hair like structures that are find in the respiratory tract. Their major function is filtration of air for removal of contaminants. They are also capable of removing foreign objects such as smoke, dust and inhaled particles such as pollen from the respiratory system. Another functions perform by the cilia is the movement of mucus away from the lungs into the throat thus helping to protect the lungs from infection.
The closing of wind pipe when swallowing is not part of the functions of the cilia, that role is performed by the epiglottis.
