B - as I bit into the beautiful tomato, I grimaced...Something should be done about the market that thinks it's OK to sell terribly underripe tomatoes.

Option B is the best one to be used as a hook for a compare/contrast essay. They compare the beatiful tomato (looks perfect) and then contrasts it with the taste of being terribly underripe.

Witch stammer provides the best analysis of the passages symbolism
schepotkina [342]

The correct answer is B.The light represents Granny Weatherall's life.

Explanation:

"The Jiggling of Granny Weatherall" is a short story that focuses on Granny Weatherall as she is gravely ill and remembers important moments in her life including the time she was Jilted by a man called George.

Indeed, in the excerpt presented, Granny imagines once again she is waiting for George at the church, and neither George nor the priest is there "Again no bridegroom and the priest in the house." Also, at the end of this memory, Granny blows out the light, which is likely a symbol or representation of her own life ending with this last memory considering she is dying and due to this, she is remembering past experiences. Thus, there is symbolism in the passage because "The light represents Granny Weatherall's life."

Answer:

At first glance, it may seem that ‘Tokyo Blues‘ is about a typical story in which a teenager is in a love triangle. And to some extent, it's true. But the history of Murakami manages to turn events around and highlight the importance of how they happen. It is a short novel, but not light. I have to admit that at the beginning I had my doubts but I really enjoyed reading.

Tokyo Blues back cover

Although the premise can be seen, the story is told with tact, sensitivity and rawness at some times. All these elements make it a very special book. The story stars unusual characters. Everyone has some emotional tare and some ghosts of the past. They are caught between nostalgia and monotony.

Death, sex, disease and insecurity are key elements in ‘Tokyo Blues’. They are present in virtually the entire book and continually condition the story. So are music and literature because despite the fact that Murakami is a Japanese writer, he is fascinated by certain Western elements that (from what I have read) he introduces into almost all his works. In this case, jazz or The Beatles (who title the book with "Norwegian Wood"), Truman Capote, Fitzgerald or Raymond Chandler.
