<u>Chinua Achebe</u> (1930-2013) was a Nigerian author who wrote the 1958 novel <em>T</em><u><em>hings Fall Apart</em></u>, which made him be known as the <u>Father of African literature</u> due to the manner he depicted and explored African culture and experience to the Western World.
This novel introduced mainstream interest for African literature, as well as it placed it in a high position.
In this passage, Douglass does say he knows he left on a Saturday but did not know what day of the month or the year it was. He also knew terms of a ship because he used them the passage.
